To use money, rather than to have money,
this is the task for the future.

Prof. Dr. Udo Reifner

The two issues of access to financial services and the quality of those services both have a decisive influence on the economic success of businesses and individuals – and accordingly, the general quality of life for all. Modern financial services should exhibit a creative approach and understanding of both the economic circumstances of individual consumers or businesses and the more general issues which impact on civil society.

Helping to organise payment flows so that funds might become available - where this is at the most efficient level possible - to individuals, businesses and society in general is the task that the Institute for Financial Services set itself from the date of its foundation in 1987.

It is our view that a basic premise in this area is that only independent, consumer focused research can assist in this ambitious endeavour. However, equally necessary are problem-solving coalitions set up between consumers, academics and financial service providers, among whom innovative strategies may be formulated.

Our work takes places precisely at the point where research, advisory activity and product development is undertaken.

iff is an independent, internationally-oriented non-profit organisation providing research and advice in the field of sustainable financial services. The institute creates electronic data-processing programmes for providers of financial advice to consumers, it issues publications, assists with training and develops models for socially responsible loans, investments, payment methods and insurance.

iff's objective is primarily to emphasise and incorporate the interests of consumers, investors, small businesses and non-profit organisations into the relationship between consumers and financial service providers in an optimal and a socially responsible manner.

The range of services extends from specialist and private reports, including empirical research, to consultancy and feasibility studies, software development, the publication of books, the provision of advice, internet applications, product analysis, the monitoring of suppliers' advice and the organisation of national and international specialist conferences and seminars.

iff is financed exclusively through current projects and does not receive any public subsidy. It is a medium-sized enterprise, whose employees are drawn primarily from academic circles.
